Aquaculture

Stay on track in the world’s fastest-growing food production industry

The consumption of aquatic foods is now five times higher than 60 years ago. Our natural, functional feed additives can play a vital role in improving health, farm economics and leading the way towards a more profitable and sustainable future for the aquaculture industry.

Opportunities and challenges

Modern aquaculture is caught between the need for growth and the need to be responsible. The industry relies heavily on expensive and unsustainable feed, such as wild-caught fishmeal and soy, which not only increases production costs, but also puts pressure on global biodiversity. Poor water quality and disease result in high mortality rates and economic losses for farmers, while the growing use of antibiotics fuels the global threat of antimicrobial resistance.

Our feed additives act as growth promoters and immune stimulators, reducing stress and mortality while improving nutrient absorption and water quality. They also provide antimicrobial and anti-stress benefits, thereby reducing ammonia levels as well as diseases and the need for antibiotics to treat them.

Signals from the industry

Regulations on antimicrobial usage are tightening globally. In 2022, new EU legislation prohibited all forms of routine antibiotic use in farming, including preventative group treatments, to reduce reliance on antibiotics for disease prevention.

While antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is decreasing in most regions, it continues to rise in some areas. As of now, 22% of WOAH Members (183 countries) still report using antimicrobials for growth promotion.

Reducing antibiotic use by 30% globally in farming could unlock $120 billion in economic gains by 2050, while also safeguarding animal welfare, ecosystem health and food security.

Responsible solutions for the aquaculture industry

Our natural, multifunctional feed additives support healthy development, growth and immunity. They provide a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to current solutions. By keeping animals’ digestive systems stay balanced and protected they can help increase productivity, reduce costs, lower emissions and speed up the transition to more responsible farming.
