A broader approach to animal health
Producitvity and responsibility
The increasing world demand for food – especially dietary changes towards higher meat intake – creates constant pressure to increase performance in the livestock industry. For many years hormones and antibiotics were used as growth-promoters. Growing public concern about the negative health consequences on humans and the numerous occurrences of infections from bacteria resistant to antibiotics in hospitals has prompted the search for alternative solutions for the livestock industry. Phytaxis long term objective is to become a major supplier of this new class of products based on its R&D, engineering, production, and market knowhow.
The main trends currently:
Antibiotics
- Increasing rejection of the use of antibiotics and other drugs in animal production due to the proven increase in bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics and the threat this poses to the human population.
Climate change
- Climate change increases the number of stress situations for animals
Production costs
- Increasing production costs for livestock and the need for productivity improvements
Animal welfare
- Increasing demand for animal welfare leading to better food from the consumers
